Please view minute 39:05 for Dedication to Dr. Joe Allison by conductor, Dr. Nse Ekpo.

While choosing to name this scholarship after Dr. Allison was so easy and clear, it's also difficult to truly capture why in just one paragraph. After attending his funeral in Kentucky of April 2022, I felt uneasy that his life had ended while his influence still felt very much alive. He made too great an impact on his students and I felt the need to keep it from feeling like the finale. Soon thereafter, I reached out to his wife to seek her approval for naming this scholarship in his honor. Her response is a beautiful summation I would like to share with you as to why I've chosen to name this scholarship in his memorial:

"What a loving thing to do and one that would make him blush with happiness! Thank you for honoring him in a way that will make a big difference for a student. Please know that he was incredibly proud of his students. When our family was deciding what to put on his tombstone, his dedication to music education was included. It says beloved son, husband, dad, “G”, and music educator. Each title brought him joy and pride. Thank you so much for honoring him! I am deeply grateful for your loving tribute." -Jeri Swiney Allison

Take a moment and read these testimonials from those who knew him well.

"The best lessons Joe Allison taught me weren't about being the best musician.  The lessons he taught me through music about being the best person stayed with me forever.  He taught me that fifteen minutes early is on time and he taught me to find the highs and lows in life in the same way I sight read music.  And most of all - to make the sweetest melody of life and experiences between each note.  His lessons through music made me a happy lifelong musician and an understanding, caring and passionate wife, mother, friend and teacher.  His legacy lives through our lives and the music we learned to love."
